Testing of Air Purifiers - Our Methodology
We don’t trust whatever a brand claims or says with regards to any products. Hence, we end up testing all the models. Air purifiers being the most critical, here is a little information on our methodology
We started testing air purifiers when our founder was looking for a machine for his children. He had access to some of the best equipment available, and tested every machine he could get his hands on. This led to a very scary discovery – more than half the machines on the market were actually harmful to health, producing ozone, formaldehyde and VOCs as by-products. Only a handful were NOT harmful and even between them, there were varying degrees of efficiency. We continue to use this methodology for testing machines, including new ones that come onto the market:
First, we run the machine on different speeds and test for the following parameters:
Actual Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR)
Actual power consumption
Then on medium speed, we test the following parameters:
Based on the results, we give the purifier a score on a scale of 1 to 10 for each parameter. This is then weighted as per the parameter and totaled to get the final results.
As we compare results, it becomes easy to separate the wheat from the chaff. The companies whose machines passed with flying colors are our partners today.
